Week in Review

September 29 - October 3

Reading Workshop JK, PF, LB, PD, KN, DD, SS

  • In narrative nonfiction, we are looking to our characters and trying to figure out an important lesson or message that the book can teach us.
  • We are continuing to push ourselves to set reading goals, work towards achieving them, and then set new ones!
  • Today was Fiction Friday and we also wrote new goals for ourselves.
  • We went to the library to get just right narrative books.
  • We looked at the pros and cons of our character's decisions in order to grow big ideas about them.
  • We learned to use a formula to help us grow ideas about our characters: Sombody... Wanted... But... So... This make me think _______ is the kind of person who ________ because (evidence).
Word Study CB, RH, KN, JC

  • We got to choose a level 4 activity: we can draw comics, write letters, create a commercial, or write a creative story.
  • We have four different level activities to complete and we get different points for each level.
  • We are going to get our new word study words and groups on Monday.
  • We did more activities than usual this week because we were learning all the trickier activities.
Gym BD, LB. LA, CB, DD, KN

  • We ran the mile!
  • Our whole class reached the fitness level!
  • There were two groups, one group was running the other groups was not. If you weren't running you wrote down your partners score.
  • We played soccer.
  • We did exercises to warm up for the mile run.
  • We did the practice push up test in groups.
Math LB, JK, LA, JC, TN, CB, DD, AM

  • In math, we are solving a problem that has to do with an amusement park and tickets. The music department has been thinking about taking a field trip.
  • We made math proofs this week!
  • We started playing xtra math at home this week. Our first math logs were due today!
  • We have been learning how to solve division using arrays and dealing out.
  • We played a game called Fill the Machine.
  • We played Four Corners the "The Grown Up" version. Ask us about it!
  • We are continuing to practice our multiplication cards and boost our fact fluency!
  • We made a poster of things we can do as mathematicians when we are "done" with math.
  • We have been working on math strings.

Writing Workshop AR, PD, DD, RH, JB

  • We started publishing our essays today!
  • We edited our essays using a checklist.
  • We made strong leads and endings for our essays.
  • We revised and made sure we had all the important details we needed to prove our thesis.
  • We did sentence surgery to make sure we did not have any run-ons or fragments in our writing.
  • Our published piece is due Tuesday!

Science OC, JW, CB

  • We learned about magnets and what they stick to.
  • We learned that steel and iron stick to magnets and search for them in the classroom.
