September 21- September 25
Top 3:

  • We wrote letters to our parents about the top 3 things we wanted them to know about us as learners. LK
Writing:
  • We started drafting our realistic fiction pieces! CN
  • For homework we continued drafting for 15 minutes! BV
  • We are trying to include details about the setting and sounds so we can draw it into our readers minds. DR
  • When we use dialogue in our writing we are making sure we start a NEW paragraph every time a NEW person speaks. AD
Math:
  • We are taking a math test in class. JW
  • We talked about multiplication tricks to help us figure out the products. GG
  • We are working on writing multiplication story problems. BW
Reading:
  • We are looking closely to our characters to get to know them better and grow ideas about them.
  • We are learning how to think deeper about our characters by using thought prompts and evidence.
  • We checked in on our goals and helped one another monitor our goals. JW
  • We are reading a new book called, "El Deafo." We are reading this because the author is coming to talk to us. The story is based on the author's life! BW
Word Study:
  • We are learning the different activities that we will be using to study spelling patterns. CJ
  • Today, we learned how to do a word hunt. This is where we reread a part of a story hunting for words that also use our spelling pattern. LS
  • We learned to resort and write about the sort so we can understand why these spelling patterns happen.

Math: 

  • We are going to be working on our multiplication facts to help us practice our speed and accuracy. We will use Xtra Math to help us! LK
  • We learned that mathematicians sketch story problems to help us understand what the question is asking us. LS
  • We played Multiplication War to help us learn our multiplication and determine which combinations we know vs which combinations we need to work on. GG
  • We talked about multiples.. we can think of multiples by skip counting! JE
Writing:
  • We are creating story arcs to help us plan out how our story will go. AD
  • We developed our characters by using T-charts to think about their internal and external traits. CL
  • We wrote test scenes to take our characters out for a ride to see how they would act! BV

  • We edited our story ideas with red pen because we know that fourth graders should ALWAYS use capital letters, punctuation, and paragraphs when needed. DR

Week in Review


Today in school the class created our very first Week in Review.  This will be done most weeks on Fridays starting today.  The Week in Review is a way for you and your child to discuss the various activities that we have done in the past week in our classroom. I hope you enjoy reading through the Week in Review each week with your child and will use it as a memory for you and your child of all the fun and learning we have had in fourth grade this year!

Math
    We took a Pre Assessment in math so Miss Sproch could learn more about us as         mathematicians. AA
·         We learned new routines in math like Today’s Number and Count Around. BW
·         We took a Two Pen Assessment to see how quickly we knew our multiplication facts. JW

Team Building
·         We are working on our Hopes and Dreams for 4th Grade. GG
·         Miss Sproch placed different colored dots on our foreheads and we had to find like colors without talking or writing. DR
·         We have a Time Capsule that we will look back on at the end of the school year! LC
·         We played games to get to know one another like the Cold Wind Blows. CL
·         We have been enjoying Snack and Chat. BV
·         We have been learning how to greet one another during morning meeting. CH
·         We played four corners! VS
·         Miss Sproch has been making us stretch and move in between subjects so we are ready to learn. MR
·         We brought in summer souvenirs to help get to know one another. LD

Reading
·         We got reading partners and reading spots! AD
·         We learned how to read our books intensely! CN
·         We got books bins and prepared all of our materials so we are ready to get in the reading zone! JE

Dismissal

·         In order to make sure we are having quiet fun so we do not miss our bus, we have been playing whole class games like Hangman! LS
