Weekend Homework

READING: Read 30 minutes each night. Log and remember to stop and think. Be thoughful and active readers. If you need to put  post-it notes in your book to remind yourself to stop and think, please do so.

Week in Review 9/24 - 9/28

1. We started word study in class and we are practicing with the same sort. We are learning the routines on word study. We have 5 must do's every week. MW
2. We had Open House last night. Thank you parents for coming and writing us back! AA
3. We are going to finish Rio today. HS
4. We finally presented all of our "Me in a Nutshell" Yay! RB
5. We had our first Portraits of America. Mrs. Comey and Mrs. Drugge came in to teach us about famous art work of the Northeast. GS, FD, DS
6. We are finishing up our Math Road trip. We are zooming in on one day to show our best math thinking. We will create a poster, share with our classmates and defend our thinking! HP
7. We had our first real pacer test in gym. A pacer test is when you run across the gym as many times as you can. The time to travel across the gym gets shorter and shorter. CV
8. We went on Scholastic Book Wizard this week looking for a list of Just Right Books. AA
9. In band, we had our first week of practice. MW
10. We will have our second mystery reader today... Who will it be? KC
11. We are starting Dreambox next week and we get our usernames and passwords. We also have a schedule for when we go on. WS
12. We inducted more books into the Rock & Read Hall of Fame. Almost everone has done a book talk. AC & HP
13. Charlotte and Ally wrote words to the pictures of "Chalk" and presented them to the class. AA

Week in Review 9/18-9/21

1. We took our triannual math assessment this week. AC
2. We are having our PJ and movie party to celebrate the ten compliments we received for being model citizens. 7 more for our whole class reward. We are working on receiving compliments for our transitions. WS, MW& HP
3. We are having our first mystery reader today... I wonder who it will be? HP
4. Our first writing piece is on the "Rockin' Writing Wall." FH
5. We are working on personal narrative small moments in writing. This week we were working on starting with strong leads. We studied leads of various authors that we admire to notice what they do as writers. We learned that strong leads can have dialogue, actions, and sound effects. DS, GS, AN, MW & CV
6. We made new reading bins for our library. We have a birthday donation bin, a book hopsital, and the Rock and Read Hall of Fame. GS
7. We have three students left to share their me in a nutshell. We have learned so much about eachother! RB
8. We are working on learning about magnetism. We are currently investigating the strength of magnets. Are they all the same? Are they different? What makes them the same/different? MS
9. We started the Northeast train ride and our first stop was Plymouth, Massachusetts. We received a souvenir of the Mayflower! AA, KC, JW
10. The S.T.A.R. book is circulating around the classroom. Three kids have already had the opportunity to take it home and share it with their parents. FH
11. We took a break from planning our road trip, but we are excited to start again next week! HS
12. We have to be responsible with our Train Ride tickets in order to ride through the northeast. We don't want to know what happens if we lose it. MA

COMPLIMENTS: We earned 10 compliments from staff for being model citizens of Ox Ridge! To celebrate this outstanding accomplishment, we will be having a PJ day with a movie on Friday! I am asking students to please bring in "G" rated movies. We will vote on which movie to watch! Way to go, Sproch Stars! We are collecting compliments for transitions this time around, we have 2 so far...8 more to go!

WRITING: Collect 1-2 more entries in your writer's notebook. Start with brainstorming, thinking of a person, place or object. Zoom in and choose a few seed moments, then write in a step-by-step manner making a movie in your mind about what happend first, and then next, and so on.

Happy Birthday!

We celebrated Cristian's birthday with Mrs. Ochman and Peyton!

Week in Review

1. We had our very first Northeast map quiz! AC
2. We got two compliments at the same time from two different teachers! This helped us to earn our first ten compliments for being model citizens. We get to choose a whole class reward! RB, MA
3. In math we are taking a road trip across the country. We have been using addition and subtraction to find out how far we are traveling and how long it will take us. We are figuring out how many stops we will have to make along the way. AC, WS, HP
4. We are celebrating my birthday today! I am 9 years old today! CO
5. This week we started band and orchestra lessons. MW
6. In gym class, we had two pacers tests. We had to run nonstop to see how far we could go. AN
7. We learned a new strategy for generating writing. It is helpful to think of a person, place, or object and then list small clear moments about them. KC
8. We are going to switch jobs and get trained for our new jobs today! WS
9. We had picture day this week. I can't wait to see how they come out! AA
10. Mr. Rechi came to visit us and said, "Good Morning Boys and Girls!" It felt like he never left! CV, KC
11. We will have our third model citizen time. I wonder what it will be? Ask us what we did! HP
12. This week we talked about the eleventh anniversary of 9/11. We watched a video that explained how it happened and who did it. GS
13. We are inducting lots of books into the Rock & Read Hall of fame. This is where we recommend books to others. FH, FD
14. We have been working on building our writing stamina. We are building our stamina just like runners do! AC, AA
15. We posted our reading goals so everyone can look at them and motivate eachother to achieve these goals! DS
16. In writing, we are turning watermelon stories, into small seed stories. These are stories that happen in about 20 minutes. GS

Week in Review

We had many "first times" this week...
1. We had our first book talks this week and found some new books that we might want to read. FH
2. We started Science this week and learned about magnets and what sticks to them and doesn't stick to them. WS
3. We had our first worksop session and worked on Math, Writing, and Social Studies. CO
4. We started Social Studies and learned where the 5 regions were. We are going to study the Northeast region first! HP
5. We started writng Personal Narratives and learned a new strategy that writers use: Think of a person who is important to you and write small moments about them. CV & AA
6. We learned new strategies new strategies in reading workshop to make us better readers. We know it is important to read ourselves AWAKE and not read on autopilot. GS
7. We will have our 2nd team building... I wonder what it will be? Ask us about it! KC
8.We are thinking about addition and subtraction problems in math. We talk about different strategies mathmeticians can use to solve problems! DS & FD
9. We have been presenting me in a Nutshell and Summer Reading Projects. AA
10. We had our Spelling Inventory. AN
11. We are having flexible snack in class. We like it! HS
12. We are studying for our first test and we learned we can make flashcards to help us study. RB
13. We noticed that our recesses are shorter than last year, but we get to each lunch earlier! DS
14. We will have our 2nd model citizen time... I wonder what we will do today as a class? Ask us about it! AC
15. We have 5 class compliments, we need 5 more to get a whole class reward! MA
16. We read about the election in Scholastic News. We learned about the two parties, democrats and republicans. We also learned about the two candidates running for presidency: Barack Obama and Mitt Romney! GS

18. We are adjusting to 4th grade and it has been....

MA:good, the schedules are different though.
