5/16 - 5/20

Writing:
  • We started a new writing unit and we are becoming journalists! BV
  • Miss Sproch spread us out through the hallways and we made observations of the world around us to look for newsworthy ideas! JE
  • We got official journalist notebooks so we can take them wherever we go and collect important notes for possible leads on stories! IP
  • We observed Kindergartners at recess and in the library to gather story leads. We also went to the cafeteria to see if there were any newsworthy leads about the 2nd grade lunch shift. LS
  • We learned how to look at something that seems ordinary, and turn it into EXTRAORDINARY by asking, "What is the importance of this?" or "What is the problem of this?" CJ
  • We learned how to expand our notes by ZOOMING in on the WHAT and including out 5 senses to describe the moment. AA
  • We learned to setup our journalist notebook with certain key items that we should be observing. This helps us to find strong leads for stories. CN
  • We got new writing partners! LD
Reading:
  • TESTING, TESTING, and more TESTING....
  • We are all getting tested for new reading levels... and we ALL moved up! VS
  • We took AIMSWEBB testing and we had to read a variety of passages fluently/ LK
  • We also took a reading on demand about the weather because we are going to be starting a new nonfiction unit soon!
  • We also read a passage that had missing words. We had to circle the word that made the mst sense to complete the sentence. LD
  • We made new reading goals based off of our old reading goals and now have two that we are currently working on! WM
Math:
  • We took two AIMSWEBB assessments, One was just facts and the other one was applying strategies to solve problems. CL
  • We learned about reflection symmetry and mirror symmetry. MR
  • We used the POWER POLYGONS to create designs and had to find lines of symmetry within them. AD
  • We learned how to use a protractor to measure angles. CJ
  • We are finding the area of shapes by using triangles. JW
  • We got new math partners! LD
Other: We are working on getting more class clips by transitioning quietly, getting started on our work right away, and not congregating! DR
