Week in Review

Today in school the class created our very first Week in Review.  This will be done most weeks on Fridays starting today.  The Week in Review is a way for you and your child to discuss the various activities that we have done in the past week in our classroom. I hope you enjoy reading through the Week in Review each week with your child and will use it as a memory for you and your child of all the fun and learning we have had in fourth grade this year!

First Week of School 8/25-8/29
 Gym
  • We have been playing dodge-ball and pinball.
  • We also played sit.
  • We played these games to work on our throwing and catching skills.
  •  In the beginning of each gym class we do laps around the gym to warm up.
  • It is fun. KN, BD, TN, JC, JW
 Reading
  •  In reading workshop we learned to set a goal in order to help us become better readers.
  • We use our logs and look for red flags in order to set goals and make changes.
  • We also learned the importance of making sure that we jot our ideas and not retell the story.
  • We have also been talking about choosing Just Right books.
  • We learned the reading expectations so we know what to do and use our time efficiently.
  • We also chose reading nooks around the classroom. PF, AR, JC, RH, CB, DD
 Math
  • We are starting to learn new warm ups to get our brains thinking about math.
  • In Today's Number, we get a number and then we have to write as many expressions that equal that number.
  • We also learned Quick Images where Miss Sproch puts up images for 3 seconds and we have to visualize the picture and then draw or write the image.
  • We also learned how to use our math notebooks and set them up with the data and title.
  • We also learned about the different arrays: picture array, closed array, and open array.
  • We are trying to push ourselves to model our thinking. KN, AR, BB, DD, BD,
Writing

  • We created a heart map, which includes everything that we care about and love.
  • This tool will help give us generate more story ideas.
  • We had a decorating party today and decorated our notebooks.
  • We only use one side of our notebooks, making sure we leave room for revisions.
  • Some of us already started brainstorming ideas for future stories.
  • Lastly, we brainstormed ideas for decorations. BD, LB, SS, AP, PD,

Music
  • We learned clapping patterns with Mr. Allen.
  • We learned a new song called, "Knees and Hands."

We practiced all of our drills in class (fire drill, storm drill and lockdown drill). DD

Team Building
  • We threw a ball of yarn to get to know one another and we had to say one unique thing about us.
  • We shared one bad thing and one good thing that we saw or was done to us.
  • Miss Sproch crumpled it each time we said a bad thing and un-crumpled it each time we said a good thing.
  • In the end, we realized that hurtful things that we say or do always leave a lasting impression.
  • We all signed a kindness promise where we promised to be kind to all.

As a responsible 4th grader, your job is to write down the homework in your homework assignment pad. Your assignment pad is a tool that you can use to:
  • help you pack up all the materials you will need for homework
  • remind you of the work you will need to complete once you arrive at home

Here are your very first homework assignments:
