Week in Review 12/3 - 12/7
2. We started the Geography Bee on Wednesday and so far Harrison is in the lead with 4 points out of 4 rounds. We will be entering our 5th round and it is getting harder because we are not receiving choices, so guessing it not as reliable as it has been. AA & MA
3. In reading workshop we are reading nonfiction and learning about JR books! We have been using Booksource and Scholastic Book Wizard to help us find JR books. In nonfiction, we are working on revving up our minds and finding the main ideas and supporting details of the text. If we do not have a pencil, we can use our hand to show the main idea and our fingers to show the supporting details. GS
4. Today, we came into the classroom and noticed that Ollie, Mrs. Newkirks class elf, was on our door. Her class was being naughty so he came over to hang with us for the day. AN
5. We started a new read aloud, "Tales of a Fouth Grade Nothing." It is mostly about a boy named Peter and his brother Fudge. Fudge gets into trouble ALL the time! So far, Fudge made his dad lose his important account with Juicy O and he also has stolen Peter's turtle and put him on his brothers arm to wake him up. KC , WS & AA
6. We celebrated Jake's birthday yesterday and ate delicious cupcakes. Jake's mother, brother, and sister came in to celebrate. They read, "How To Train Your Dragon." CO
7. Miss Sproch is not giving us reminders to listen with attention anymore. We are responsible for doing this on our own now. If we aren't listening with attention, we will lose some model citizen time. RB
8. Julia gave us a book, "In a Glass Grimmly" that was signed by the author. It is a museum only copy. GS
9. Miss Sproch decorated our class with Christmas lights to get into the holiday spirit. HP

Week In Review 11/12 - 11/16
- Three people lost their teeth in less than 10 minutes yesterday. Julia, Garrett, and Cristian hopefully were paid a visit from the toothfairy last night! GS, SS
- We received one compliment and we are working harder to earn more than 1 a week! MA
- I finally turned in my word study this week! WS
- We are going to make our wish list at the book fair today. Some of us have already visited the book fair, but we are still excited to go again. AA & CO
- Senora Guillen came in to teach us Spanish yesterday. She taught us a song called, "Bobby and Maria." HP
- In writing workshop we started brainstorming ideas about our character by thinking about who they are on the inside and what they look like on the outside. We also were thinking about the attitude they have toward themselves and the attitudes others have toward them. HS, RB
- We started going to Mr. Seek's class for Science. We are studying food chains and food webs. We looked at what happens if you take one piece away from a system and how it will affect it. MA
- Some of us got new partners in math. In math, we are researching how many kids can be in a group if there are 100 kids and 13 chaperones. We are trying to use efficient strategies and models to show our thinking. We determined the differences between models and strategies and we are also trying to figure out which model will help us to solve division! CO. HP, FH
- The Veterans came to our school on Monday and we asked questions about their experiences and they answered us based on their experiences. DS
- We celebrated Ryan's birthday this week! His grandfather came in and it was also his birthday too! His grandfather read part of, "Where the Mountain Meets the Moon." GS & AA
- In Ida B., Ida is trying to apologize to Claire by going to the bathroom at the same time as her. She wants to be in a private place because she doesn't want to be humiliated by everyone. When Ida goes to the bathroom quickly, finished her business, opened the stall door and was standing directly in front of Claire! What will happen next... HP

Week In Review 11/5 - 11/9
- Everyone got to wear our costumes to school today! Lots of friends wore something crazy. FH & RB
- We had our first day of snow this year! Most of us didn't lose power for the snow storm. MW
- In gym, we had our flexibility test and we had to reach to our toes. CV
- We had three 90-minute delays this week! GS
- We had our first Spanish lesson yesterday. She taught us how to say, "What is your name?" in Spanish. "Como te llamas?" AA
- We are finishing up our electricity experiments today. They are due on Monday! WS
- We didn't earn a compliment again this week, but we know what we need to do in order to earn one. We still need 5 more compliments to get our whole class reward. MA & HP
- Our Veteran's Day celebration has been postponed until Monday. WS
- We had our Halloween Party! We made turkeys out of pumpkins. We used feathers, googly eyes, and model magic. We got flashlights and told our power outage stories in the dark. KC, AC, HP
- In Ida B this week, we learned how Claire and her little brother Ray found Ida's signs. They thought they were jokes and Ida B. was really angry. Ray ran away, but Claire stood her ground. She told Ida B that she was mean because you shouldn't yell at people who are nice to you. AA
- We had school on Monday and Election Day. Most schools were not open. MW

Week in Review 10/21 - 10/26
- We had our first curl test in gym. We have one more test left--flexibility! AC & FD
- We are going to have our Author Celebration for our Personal Narrative stories. We published our final copies, created covers, and wrote About the Author. CO MW
- We were sharing our strategies in a math congress to figure out how many ice tea bottles would fit in the ice tea machine. We looked at the ice tea machine and saw it held 132 bottles. We looked to see how many 6-packs fit in the machine and how many full boxes we would need. During our math congress we looked at which mathematician's strategy was most efficient. We are thinking about using these strategies next time! Some of us had to explain our strategies to the rest of the class. We noticed that we are using similiar strategies. KC, AA, HP & HS
- We shared our Personal Narrative stories with Miss Dineen's class. They shared their small moment stories with us! CV
- Patricia Polacco came to our school for an Author Visit. She brought in a tiny piece of the meteor and the "new" keeping quilt. The original one is in a museum. On the "new" keeping quilt was the original heart from Ana's dress. This is the heartbeat of the quilt and what makes it keep living. We all got to touch the meteor and make a wish on it. We couldn't wish for money, change a person, or toys/purchased item. We learned how this shooting star landed in her grandparents yard. She told us that we,"touched the hand, that touched the hand, that touched the hand of Abraham Lincoln." AN. AC, RB, AA, HP

- We are collecting a lot of Box Tops! FH
- After finishing our personal narratives, we have been brainstorming ideas for Halloween Stories. AA

- Ida B. made a "secret" friend named Ronnie. We think this is changing who she is as a person because previously she was the kind of person who was alone and pessimistic. Now she is starting to like school and making friends. She is being more optimistic! She recently got called on to read a book in front of the entire class and she didn't want to do it, but deep down inside she really did because she was practicing at her house.
- We are starting a countown to Halloween. Hurricane Frankenstorm aka Sandy, is coming Monday-Friday. Please DON'T cancel Halloween this year! This is going to be a really bad storm because it is going to combine with a snow storm! HP DS

Week in Review 10/15 - 10/19
- In science we all got to light up a light bulb using one wire, one battery, and one bulb. AA & FH
- In writing workshop, we are going to publish our final drafts soon! KC
- We had special guests in our classroom for reading today. HP
- We went on a field trip to the Connecticut Science Center in Hartford. We got to see some very cool exhibits. Many of us got lots of souvenirs from the gift shop. The line was reallllllly long! We went on coach buses! FD, CV & MW
- We did the push up test in gym and we tried to reach 40 push ups in total. DS
- We had a chair fairy-athon and most people wanted to be chair fairy. MA
- In math, we got new partners. We also had a math congress today about the Fitness Edge. We were exploring strategies we used to figure out how many six-packs fit in the water machine and how many bottles of juice were in each flavor. CO & HS
- We had no mystery reader today :( GS
- We got another compliment today, we need to push ourselves to earn more compliments. MA
- Garrett and Ava went to the first student council meeting was yesterday and they brought a bag to collect box tops in! AN & RB
- We are working on not having side conversations. WS
- We started Fall 4 Math. We are trying really hard to earn a prize! DS
- Miss Sproch picked out two names today from the I Caught You Jar. JL

Week in Review 10/9 - 10/12
- We ran our first 9 laps and 50 ft around the field. This was one mile. AC & MW
- We are starting to learn about electricity in science. WS
- We played Jeopardy in Science to review what we learned about magnetism. Team 1, won it all! GS & AA
- We just got our new words in word study. We did not have a spelling test, but we are trying to use these spelling patterns in our writing. KC & FH
- We are learning about arrays in math. We are trying to focus on using open arrays to see how they can help us multiply easier facts and harder facts. We learned that we can halve and double our facts to make the problem easier to solve! MW, DS, & HP
- We had our depot party yesterday and we had a lot of fun! The food cost money! CV
- We have new math partners! Ask us about them! CV
- We watched Bill Nye the Science Guy and learned about magnetism and Compass Man! RB
- We gained our first compliment in two weeks. We need to work on our transitions still. MA & MW
- We have been praciticing for our push up, curl up, and flexibility tests in gym. CO
- In Ida B, we just found out Ida B's mom has cancer. Her mom has lumps under her arm. Ida B is scared that her mom will die and leave her, but her mom told her, "I will always be with you no matter what." Ida B has to stand up and start helping around the house. She is also going to have to grow up quicker. AN, FD, RB
- In writing we started to learn about timelines to help us plan out our story. Timelines are helpful to eliminate parts that aren't interesting. They are also helpful in adding events in the order they happened. KC
