2/22- 2/26
Writing:

  • We started brainstorming story ideas for realistic fiction stories. They are going to have a bigger meaning! LK
  • We brainstormed story ideas by thinking about issues, lessons, and themes that were important to us. We then created a story idea with a character that struggles with one of these. GG
  • We wrote an on demand in writing to see all the skills and strategies we are carrying forward with us. JW
  • We also thought about small moments and analyzed them to see what important feelings, lessons and issues we were dealing with. BV
Reading:
  • We are starting to read historical fiction with a partnership. CJ
  • Today we made a club constitution so we stay on track and hold each other accountable. Miss Sproch notarized them for us! LS
  • We started a new read aloud, Number the Stars, by Lois Lowry. BW
  • In order to follow our characters, we can make a mental bulletin board so we can tack up all the important information about them! AA
  • We took a reading assessment to see what strategies we are carrying forward and which ones we need to work on. CL
  • We learned a new strategy to find main idea of a nonfiction text. List the 5 most important words about a text, and then explain why they were so important. CN & LD
Math:
  • We are working on fractions. We learned strategies for finding fractional parts of a group of things. VS
  • We use the denominator to help us find out how many equal parts the whole is split into. We use the numerator to help us determine how many equal parts are shaded/shared. DR & CH
  • We took a mad minute where we had 5 minutes to complete as many mixed problems as we could. There were a total of 100. CL
Social Studies:
  • We started researching the Midwest. We are learning about the government, geography, economy, and history. IP
