Week in Review

                                                       September 15th- September 18th

Math: 

  • We are going to be working on our multiplication facts to help us practice our speed and accuracy. We will use Xtra Math to help us! LK
  • We learned that mathematicians sketch story problems to help us understand what the question is asking us. LS
  • We played Multiplication War to help us learn our multiplication and determine which combinations we know vs which combinations we need to work on. GG
  • We talked about multiples.. we can think of multiples by skip counting! JE
Writing:
  • We are creating story arcs to help us plan out how our story will go. AD
  • We developed our characters by using T-charts to think about their internal and external traits. CL
  • We wrote test scenes to take our characters out for a ride to see how they would act! BV
  • We also developed our secondary characters! MR
  • We thought about what our characters REALLY want and what struggles will get in their way! CN
  • We are practicing our cursive handwriting. Today we worked on lowercase a. VS
Reading:
  • We are learning how to make evidence based predictions in our JR books. JW
  • We are setting goals and monitoring our progress! WM
  • We are continuing to read intensely and learning more ways to do so! BW
Second Steps:
  • We are learning how to listen attentively. CJ
  • We are practicing to make eye contact when we are listening attentively. CH
Word Study:
  • We made a class word wall. We added homophones that are commonly misspelled: wear, where, we're, were and there, their, they're. LD
  • We also are beginning to learn various activities to help us study our spelling patterns. AA
  • We learned how to do flip folder! DR

Week of September 8- September 11th
Reading:

  • We are envisioning our stories and sketching the movies we make in our mind. BV
  • We are pushing ourselves to write about our envisionments. MR
  • We set goals for ourselves in reading. BW
  • We are continuing to read intensely and learning more ways to do this! WM
  • We have reading partners to help push up to be the best reader we can be! CL
  • We are using a checklist to help us lift the level of our envisionments. AD
Math:
  • We are learning about arrays. CJ
  • We are learning about factors and multiplication. LK
  • We learned that 10 cannot be a factor if there is not a 0 in the ones place. JE
  • We also learned about prime numbers, composite numbers, and square numbers. JW
  • We had a gallery walk to find prime numbers, composite numbers, and square numbers. CN
Writing:
  • We are applying for our cursive permit! LS
  • We are brainstorming story ideas for realistic fiction. AA
  • We brainstormed ideas by thinking about small moments from our own lives and then turning them into realistic fiction story ideas.
  • We edited our story ideas with red pen because we know that fourth graders should ALWAYS use capital letters, punctuation, and paragraphs when needed. DR
Second Steps:
  • We are learning to listen with attention. We played the game, "Telephone" to practice listening with attention. LD
Workshop:
  • We started workshop this week. This is a time for us to continue working on something we need to finish, a time to practice strategies, or a time to meet with Miss Sproch! VS
