MATH: No math this week :)

WRITING:
  • The ROUGH DRAFT of your State Book is due this Friday, May 18th. Most of your rough draft will be done in school; however, if you do not reach your writing goal for the day, you will need to complete some of your rough draft at home. Remember to use your writing time wisely in school.
  • You will need to get PICTURES for your book. You should look online at home and print the pictures, look in books and photocopy them, or draw them. START WORKING ON THIS NOW. BE SURE TO BRING THEM IN TO SCHOOL AND LEAVE THEM IN YOUR WRITING FOLDER.

Week in Review 5/7 - 5/11

1. We had our music concert for chorus, band, and orchestra last night. During the day, we had a field trip to the rehearsal. I was featured in "Angry Birds" during the concert.  JP
2. We started discussing what social issues are in reading workshop. Social issues are problems that happen to many characters in books or many people in life. HD
3. We started drafting our state books. EM
4. We set a goal of how many pages we needed to get done each day in order to complete our project. We used division to figure this out! QG, DT, EK
5. We finished our maps for the State Books! NC
6. We are working on listening and following directions. OM
7. Yesterday, we combined all the classes and have 3 specials! JD
8. On Wednesday, in writing workshop we started our bibliographies using Noodlebib. JP
9. The first graders are having their musical. CC
10. We are ending are unit on money and are showing what we know on Monday. RM
11. We are finishing up with word study  and will soon have a test on our words. LG
12. We have a special activity... I wonder what it will be? RP
13. Wednesday was the first day of honors orchestra. JP
14. This weeks weather report, it was supposed rain, surprisingly the sun came out. SC
15. I wonder who are mystery reader will be...? OM
16.Hockey update... in the western conference the LA Kings and Phoenix Coyotes are playing and it is tied. The winner of this will go on and play the devils. PY
Basketball update the Sixers beat the Bulls, and the Celtics beat the Hawks. RP

STATE MAP:  Please finish your maps at home and return to school by FRIDAY, MAY 11th. It is helpful to work on this a little each night. See requirements below:
Your map should include:
  • 5 major bodies of water (rivers and lakes)
  • 5 largest cities in your state
  • State Capital
  • the 2-3 places of interest your researched
  • Economic Resources
  • Natural Resources
  • Map Key
  • Any other information you want to include.
Use pencil first; then go over any writing with a black pen so it can be easily read.
You must neatly color in the map using colored pencils.

SOCIAL STUDIES: Bring in materials to create your 3-D models to illustrate your events on your Southwest Timeline on FRIDAY, MAY 4th. We will build our models in class. These models can be made out of something as simple as paper!

1. We started researching for our state books. RM
2. We are having an author visit from Stephanie Greene. RP
3. We are learning to do long division and finding the mean. EK
4. We are finishing up our book clubs this week, and moving on to partner reading! LG
5. In Pictures of Hollis Woods, Hollis is staying at Josie's house and we think she might have alzheimers. JD
6. We are working on a 3-D timeline for the Southwest region. JD
7. We put together all of our state murals to create the midwest. HD & JP
8. We are trying to get back on track since coming back from break. OM
9. Today, we have a special activity and Miss Sproch thinks that Elizabeth is going to do very well! EK
10. Most of us wore green on Wednesday in honor of Earth Day. LG
11. The Rangers and Devils won game 7 and are moving on to round 2! SB & RP
12. Gym class was finally held outside! PY
13. We switched science classes and now have Mrs. Wein. She is teaching us about land and water. EM
14. Less than two weeks away until the Spring Concert.JP
15. We hung up our poems on the Writers At Work Wall. CC
16. This weeks weather report: It has been colder than usual, we were expecting temperatures around the high 50's low 60's. SC

HOMEWORK 4/23 - 4/27

1.READING:
Remember each night you are required to read for a total of 35 minutes AND Log each entry. If you have not met your book club goal, please make sure you do so before reading your side book.
As you read, remind yourself to stop and jot either on Post-Its or in your reading notebook in order to prepare for your book club meeting.
What new strategies are you trying out? What BIG ideas are you learning about life? yourself?

2.MATH:
That Quiz- Everyone does Test A. If you do well, move on to Test B. If you want a challenge, move to Test C.
ALSO: 30 minutes multiplication and division games on Arcademics.

Earth Day: Ox Ridge students are going to show their support by wearing GREEN THIS Wednesday, April 25th. It is important to take care of our Earth and think about the ways we can keep our environment clean and GREEN....turn off a light, use a water bottle, help out in the Ox Ridge Garden, recycle...there are so many ways we can continue to do our part.
LOGS ARE DUE Monday, April 30th!
